Antique Carved Mirror

A substantial antique carved mirror brings architectural weight and quiet drama to a hallway, landing or living room wall.

The tall rectangular frame is cut from solid timber, its surface deeply worked with scrolling foliage, geometric borders and a central rosette along the top rail. Vertical side posts carry layered mouldings and floral panels that catch the light differently as you move past. The wood has aged to a warm mid-brown with darker weathering in the recesses; traces of old yellow pigment remain at the lower corners, evidence of a long life before it reached the shop floor.

The glass sits flush within the opening, reflecting the room without distraction so the carved surround remains the focus. At this scale the piece reads almost like a doorway, suited to a plain plaster wall or beside a console where its texture can sit against smoother surfaces. The joinery at the corners shows honest construction, with the top rail extending slightly beyond the uprights in the traditional manner.

Because each carving is hand-cut and the timber has weathered unevenly, no two angles look quite the same. It is a one-off architectural fragment ready to hang as the quiet centre of a room.
