A commanding horse head sculpture for a mantel, console or study shelf, this piece brings classical drama into a contemporary room without needing a full gallery wall.
Modelled after the Selene horse from a fresco that once decorated the front of the Acropolis, it recalls scenes of classical history. The original is conserved in the London Museum. The head is cast with a dark, weathered finish flecked with warm gold, the mane and ears still readable, the mouth slightly open. It sits on a simple black metal stand with a square base, so the form reads cleanly from the side or three-quarter view.
The surface has a rough, mineral texture that catches light along the cheek and muzzle. Place it alone on a deep shelf, or opposite a mirror so the profile doubles. It suits rooms already holding dark wood, stone or bronze-toned metal.
